Knight Moves by Julie Moffett
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Knight Moves is the second book in the White Knights series. This is a YA series that I think preteen through adults will enjoy. It is a spin-off from the Lexi Carmichael series. I started the series with this book. I was able to keep up just fine but now want to get every single book I have missed.
There is so much I loved about this book that it is difficult to start. My brain shouting, “just tell them to read it. Tell everyone to read it!,” is not helping at all. I love that this book has three smart teenagers, two females and one male who are good friends. I love that Angel was a loner who is learning about friendship and is advancing her social skills in a natural way. I related to that part so well. All of the teens at the school are unique. They can, and do, stand by theirselves with their own strengths and weaknesses. Yet all of them are equal. The ending, of this book, wow! I don’t want to give it away but this sapient author surprised me with something I have found missing in a few YA books I have read. I felt like cheering! Oh and the school..if you aren’t going to Hogwarts, you probably want to go here. The negatives? I have none. I plan to recommend this series to my library for their YA section. I don’t have children in school but I am thinking to donate copies of it to the alternative high school as well as the high school libraries. Teens need to see they can be brilliant. They can be strong. They can be different yet equal and both sexes can be friends without the pressure of an intense relationship. They need to see that their strengths and weaknesses are normal and they are still valuable with them. This series shines a light for them.
